Book Review | MEAN STREAK by Sandra Brown
Book Rating: 5 out of 5
Mean Streak is the culmination of years of an amazing author honing her skills in different genres of writing and pulling them together for the perfect thriller. This is the brilliant Sandra Brown, at her best.
Running marathons, or training for marathons, couldn't be further from something that I am interested in. Not even a little. However, throw in a little romance, a bit of violence, a lot of mystery and veritable maze of twists and turns and I'll be all in on the couch, flipping pages until the story is finished. Especially when that virtual pot of herbs and spices is carefully crafted by a master story teller.
Dr. Emory Charbonneau disappears one morning on a training run through the mountains of North Carolina. It's freezing cold outside and the in-climate weather halts her husband's, and the police's effort to find her before it is too late. While the search is suspended, the local detective grows suspicious of foul play from the most obvious possible source, the husband. Little does the detective know that Emory, suffering from an unexplained head injury, is actually being held captive in a remote cabin, by a man who's mysterious and violent past is so dark, he refuses to even mention his name. His main reason for such depths of mystery is his fear of the FBI finally catching up to him.
As Emory is held captive she sees a side to this man that few have ever seen and the lines are blurred between captor and savior. Heart pounding romance and thrumming suspense come together as Emory's husband and his deception are revealed in a way you won't see coming.
This my friends is a page turner. In every sense of the word. This is a definite must read and good luck getting anything else done until you reach the final sentence on the very last page. Sandra Brown is a master of her craft, and this story is no exception. It also comes as no surprise because Sandra has a bursting stable of show pony novels just waiting for you, a comfy chair and maybe even a couple fingers of bourbon. Sit back, relax and enjoy!
